1 in 3 US Adults May Have Diabetes by 2050

January 12, 2011

By the year 2050, it is predicted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that 1 in 3 US adults will have some form of diabetes. That statistic is more startling when compared that currently, that rate is “only” 1 in 10.

Fortunately, type-2 diabetes is controllable by implementing a diet and exercise program. Type-2 diabetes is the most prevalent form of the disease in the US, and nearly 80 percent of type-2 diabetics are overweight. By losing weight, those affected may able to control it, and those who are borderline are often able to prevent this very dangerous disease.

But dieting and exercise doesn’t come easy to some people and that’s where weight loss surgery can help. Lap-Band surgery can help reduce weight, and in many cases, improve or eliminate type-2 diabetes. No one wants diabetes, but with diet, exercise or surgery at your disposal, diabetes can be managed.
