Breast Biopsy Procedures
Breast biopsies are the first step in finding out exactly what produces an abnormal breast diagnostic result. Biopsies come in all shapes and sizes and the procedure performed largely depends on the patient’s particular circumstance. Our goal, here at Advanced Surgical Associates, is to offer the most effective biopsy procedures, using minimally invasive techniques with results received in the shortest amount of time.
In-office Biopsy
This is the least invasive type of biopsy procedure available today and can be performed right in the comfort of our own treatment suites, for your convenience. Further, in-office biopsy results may be available very quickly to minimize result wait times. The availability of an in-office biopsy largely depends on the size and location of the lesion. With proper diagnostic testing, we will be able to offer guidance on the best biopsy procedure for your particular circumstance.
Vacora® Assisted Biopsy
Using our portable ultra-sound technology, this self-contained, vacuum-assisted biopsy instrument allows our surgeons to get biopsy results within 2 days. This eliminates the normal waiting time to get into the hospital and provides the patient with more surgical treatment options, earlier. Further, the Vacora® device offers exceptionally accurate diagnostic results and a huge degree of flexibility and convenience for patient and physician alike.
Off-site Biopsy
Certain lesions will have to be biopsied off-site. This means that the procedure will be performed in the hospital or at a specialized breast center. In conjunction with one of the high quality the off-site facilities we employ, your ASA surgeon can offer the most advanced, least invasive biopsies available today.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Procedure
This safe, less invasive approach can accurately sample breast tissue from a suspected abnormality, faster and with fewer complications. Performed with the patient on a special table, using X-ray for guidance, the surgeon takes a number of tissue samples by inserting a thin probe into a tiny nick in the skin. Discomfort is minimal and results are frequently available within forty-eight hours.
The Sentinel Node Biopsy
Unlike traditional node biopsies, this procedure removes only 1-4 lymph nodes instead of the standard 10-20 nodes. It is as accurate as the more invasive procedure but with fewer complications.
While the need for a biopsy is daunting, we hope you take comfort in the fact that advanced Surgical Associates offers only the most advanced technologies and techniques to diagnose your breast problem. Please schedule a consultation at our office to learn more.
